Forum Rules

Expanding on the regular Forum Rules, the Computers Forum has some forum-specific rules.

1. Descriptive titles.

Please make your threads with descriptive titles.

Good title: Computer is overheating
BAD title: I need help plz!!!

Otherwise the forum will be filled with non-descriptive thread titles, which is a pain to go through. To go along with this note, if you are asking us to suggest a good computer or a good build for you, in the first post, explain to us what you need to do with the system. Saying you need a laptop for university isn't the best description, as many courses require more powerful systems than say, an English course.

2. Piracy.

  1. Discussion of torrent clients, the BitTorrent protocol, etc is allowed
  2. Discussion of where to get torrents is NOT allowed. This includes telling people what sites they can get torrents from (whether you link them or not). This is simply to keep Nexopia out of trouble.
  3. Linking to a torrent website is also not allowed.
  4. Discussion of a torrent site is allowed to an extent. For example, if TPB is getting sued again, then by all means, feel free to discuss it.
  5. Suggesting to "acquire" or "freely obtain" copyrighted material (i.e. software, music, movies).
  6. No asking how to run or install or crack pirated software.
  7. Because Apple forbids installing it's operating systems on non-Apple hardware, questions or links regarding building or installing a Hackintosh (or variations thereof) will equal a piracy offense

The only exceptions to b. and c. are if the torrents / torrent sites contain only legitimately free content (eg, distro's of Linux).

3. Warez / Pirated Movies and Music

While Nexopia doesn't have any say in whether you can or can't download music, software, movies, etc, please follow the site rules on this matter.

  • Refrain from linking to Warez sites. This includes sites for software, music, and movie downloads, serials, cracks, etc.
  • Discussion on the matter is fine, but rules for Warez are similar to the rules for Torrents.

4. Flaming

This is just not tolerated. Geeks have feelings (and girlfriends) too. But in all seriousness, harassment of other users isn't allowed in any forum, and this one is no different. Flaming also helps derail threads, and this will not be tolerated. Offending parties will have their posts deleted, and will be warned and/or banned.

This includes telling users to just google it (including lmgtfy.com).

5. Video Games

Unless it directly relates to computer software or hardware, please keep videogame discussion to the Videogames Forum

Failure to follow these rules will result in warnings and or bans (at moderator discretion, and usually based on previous offenses). If in doubt if a thread will break the rules, feel free to message a mod below.

Piracy does include jailbreaking or rooting a device to get free software. No exceptions. Although jailbreaking or rooting is now legal on its own, wanting to do it for free software you would normally need to pay for is piracy. Creating a thread about getting paid apps for free will still give you a three day ban, increasing with each offense.
