hey Andy please tell me whats news regarding the dark star? 9:59amAndy maybe a lead with an IRAS object in Orion. I'm working on this at the moment, but it looks authentic enough. We'll see! 9:59amMichael what about SPT? they had a blog, but no info about what theyre really looking at 10:00amAndy SPT? what's that? sorry for my ignorance. 10:01amMichael the south pole telescope they installed specifically ( or maybe not ) to look with Infrared into space. its the planet x tracker as far as i know 10:03amAndy ah, yes - hmmm, well if you wanted to looked for a hot object in space, and needed a ground-based infra-red telescope, then the south pole would be a good place to put it. But the official data about the SPT is that it's a microwave scope, or something along those lines. The best bet for detection is space based - SIRTF and WISE are the main systems that would be useful. 10:06amMichael Do you think we will see anything in our skies? 10:08amAndy I think that if the Dark Star exists, and it's certainyl a strong possibility, then these new surveys should highlight it. Once its spotted in infra-red, then powerful telescopes should be able to pick it up visually, once they know where to look. But it would have to be way, way out there. It's possible that 2012 holds other potentials for us though - comet clusters, and the like. Or some kind of solar disturbance. have a good ay my friend. I've got to go! |
