"All you've ever read about him from former teammates" is likely a terrible sample size of maybe 2-3 things... but I don't question that his teammates would say good things about him. I'm sure they would. But if things aren't going his way, he strikes me as the kind of guy to bitch and complain and be a baby about it.

I love Eager, he was a big part of us beating San Jose in the WCF last year with all those stupid penalties he took.

Who knows, maybe he was still autistic from hitting his brain into the glass, and couldn't figure out how to get the puck in the net :p

That's true, but if the guy was a bad teammate, old teammates would say more neutral things.

But, it appears your right. For whatever reason, he has taken the completely wrong approach to his struggles and it is frustrating to see as a fan.

To me I think eager came to a 30th place team thinking he could obviously crack the top 9. Guy should have looked at our roster before this.

He should be happy he's getting a start most nights with his play right now.

It doesn't matter if its the worst team in the league, there is not a team in the league that would play Eager in the top 9 without some injuries on the LW

Ehh, the D is not helping him out much at all tonight. 3rd goal was his fault. Khabby of the first 10 games probably saves the first two, but you can't blame him on them, really.

Or maybe as we have been saying all along the Oilers streak of success was just exactly that? A streak?

I don't deny the oil streak was nothing more then a hot streak. This game is disgusting. Worst performance of the year for sure. Khabby was brutal tonight. He owns this loss. Nuff said

For the record, he owns 50% of the loss. The other 50% is having 4 d-men playing 30 minutes of the game. Hell, Petry and Peckham were half our defensive core tonight. Add in that Whitney and Barker are out, and we had 4 d-men hurt out of 8 possible players. It's no surprise we're losing when we're in that bad of shape... Injuries are fucking us in the dick. As par usual.

That being said, Pajaarvi has to man the fuck up already. Ryan Jones is kicking his ass. That's not right. Hemsky looked good at the start of the game, then lost all ambition once our team started losing. The 2 shitty calls at the start of the game made our D tired, and then we lost Potter and dropped down to 4 d-men.

Something that really bothered me was watching Anderson jump IN FRONT OF HALL when he was coming around behind the net, and get punished the exact same as Lucic for running Miller and giving him a concussion. What kind of fucked mindset is that, Shanahan?

Brutal goaltending. Brutal D (didn't help that Sutton injured his groin in the warmup and Potter was out by the half way mark ish. Down to 4 D for half the game, but by then the game was all but over.

Yet another offensively dry night. The sophomore slumps for Hall and MPS continue. The Smyth, Horcoff, Hemsky line was terrible tonight.

I like Renney as a coach, and I know he's a defensive systems specialist, but if he can't shake these line ups significantly to start producing some offense, we need to find someone who can. He's basically a MacT clone right now and I am hating it.

Hall - RNH - Eberle
Paajarvi - Gagner - Hemsky
Smyth - Horcoff - Jones
Eager/Hordi/Lander - Belanger - Petrell

This needs to be tried. MPS and Hemsky aren't defensive slouches, or at least, they haven't been in the past. The top two lines will be primarily offense. MPS and Hemsky would need to shoot more than they typically do for it to work, but I think it could work. Third line plays similar amounts of time to the second line, but against tougher competition.

Eager needs to start hitting. The man is 240lbs and fast as fuck, especially for his size. He. Needs. To. Hit.

Down by 3 at home and he doesn't even put an effort in to try and inject some energy? Come the fuck on. You bitch about ice time, yet you don't do what any 4th liner does to get back in the coaches good books? I can't wait for Hordichuk to be back. At least he understands what his role is.

I agree weep, I have been preaching those lines for a long time. I originally thought belanger was coming in to be our 4th line center.

I don't see how you can take Smyth out of the top six and put MPS in there with the way each of them have played this year... but otherwise those lines look deece.

What the fuck happened tonight? I started Eberle thinking the Oilers would be able to muster some offense against a terrible Senators team. At least I also started Michalek/Spezza, haha.

You don't have to look any further than Khabi overachieving these first games [he has the ability to be a good goaltender, but not as good as he has been.] and us having to play 4 d-men starting early in the second until the end. We could barely break out because our d-men were so busy trying to catch their breath.. especially when 2 of them are Petry and Peckham, a kid that would be working on the barons if we weren't so banged up, and a tough guy who's probably best as a 5-6.

On top of that, 2 of our top 4 are out, Barker for 3 months. You take out 2 of a team's top 4, then take out 2 of the better ones for a game and leave 4 on the ice, and the game is going to get real ugly, real fast. 50% of our d tonight was played by 5-6 d-men.

The kid line was dynamite early on, and Hemsky had a real spring to his step... then boom, khabi lets in 2 shitty goals and 1 iffy one, with no help from the d. All the jubilance is sucked out of the kids, and Hemmer plays an uninspired game. It's pretty clear what went wrong this game... it's just sad that injuries are taking the wind out of our sails at the same time.

Because, with the personnel we have, giving 20+ minutes a night to Horcs and Smyth will make Smyth look good but we'll continue to lose games.

MPS has looked good in the very brief amount of time he has been put with offensive players. The majority of the time he has played with players of Belanger, Jones and Petrell's ilk. Those players are out there to crash, bang, defend, etc. While MPS is defensively sound, that should not be all he is doing and that is not all he is capable of doing.

Alternatively, it may be better to go with

Paajarvi - Hopkins - Eberle
Hall - Gagner - Hemsky

More balanced, gives Hall a kick in the ass, and the 3 or 4 shifts the MPS has played with RNH, chances have been made in times when the rest of the team has not been doing anything.

A major shake up needs to be made or we will be a lottery team again.

As for tonight, we started the game with about 7 minutes of pure domination. Multiple chance shifts from the kid line and the Horcoff line, but then a 2 on 1 given up the other way ends up in the back of the net and another goal 9 seconds later to put us down 2-0 on the Sens first two shots. We never recovered. Completely deflated after that.

good game before a 4 game road trip that should be easier then the last trip...

i been saying other forums, i can see the oilers being a really good team at home, but on the road not so much... it's a step up from last year still because we sucked in both.

i think if the oil can get 25 wins at home and 15 on the road, they are right where i expected them to be at the beginning of the season... maybe not 40 wins, but .500 hockey

Oilers are 5th in the league on the PP and 6th in the league on the PK.

I can't remember a time we've had such success on the special teams, specifically PP. We've had some good PK years, but never has the PP been as good or better. We've been REALLY good at home on the PP. Need to pick it up on the road.
