NEWS: The Killers Overkill
It's true. Las Vegas lizards, The Killers, are apparently hard at work on a compilation of rarities and B sides and have officially coerced the one time leader of the Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, to sing on a brand new track called "Tranquilize." Produced by the legendary Alan Moulder, Killers front man Brandon Flowers described the composition as "one of our more depressing songs," but added that he thinks it's their best work to date and that it's "a song that really should've been on Sam's Town. When probed further by NME.com to comment on why, after only two albums and a handful of singles, the band felt it necessary to release a rarities comp. he replied; "I'm a big fan of The Masterplan by Oasis and Hatful of Hollow by The Smiths. It's for our fans who want the whole collection in one package. Still not sure who Lou Reed is? How bout Andy Warhol? How about every garage and punk band on the planet right now? They were pretty much all influenced by Lou Reeds band The Velvet Underground. Here's a bit of a history lesson: What always happens to bands? They start off writing some amazing songs, dressing for the street and giving it all they have. Then all of a sudden they look like they were thrown in a blender with a bag of synthetic beard hair, a bunch of bad romance novels and the stylist for Napoleon Bonaparte (not to be mistaken for Robot Chicken's Napoleon Bonamite) So you decide what is better...this stripped down original video for The Killers super hit "Mr. Brightside"... Or this version which resembles a freak show with costumes that looked like they just stumbled out of the "dress like the wild west" olde time photo studio at your local shopping mall? Whatever its still a good song! |
