The story of Iraq's first ever Heavy Metal Band is a long and winding road through the sticky world of international politics, religious persecutions, and of course, a love of music. Formed under Saddam in the early 00s, the band first came to Vice Magazine's attention in late 2003 when it still looked like things might not work out with the U.S. Of course, the story of four metal heads who were risking their lives on a daily basis to play the music they loved was right up Vice's alley and they followed the band for five years documenting their story on film. That film is of course, Heavy Metal in Baghdad which is getting released on DVD on July 2.
