REVIEW: Angus & Julia Stone - A Book Like This
If you love the idea of wandering through summer soaked fields or reflecting on a Sunday afternoon, you may want to give this album a try. This brother/sister folk acoustic act may be household names back in their hometown of Sydney, Australia but they have just released their debut album, A Book Like This in North America and many are taking a listen. Quiet yet engaging acoustics compliment the sweet poetry within the lyrics. Expect to catch hints of a myriad of instruments including harmonica, trumpet, cello and even a bazooki. Angus’ and Julia’s delicate, echoey voices sing about stories filled with nostalgic memories and childhood dreams. Julia’s achy, desperate vocals in “Wasted” and “Hollywood” are particularly enchanting. A book Like This elicits images of kitchen parties, Celtic fests, and bonfire jams. You may suddenly wish it was warm enough to grab your vintage bike and a blanket and take a sunny bike ride down to the local folk fest.
