Wolverines chew up Fury
Published: September 09, 2008 7:00 PM The Vernon Wolverines crushed the Kelowna Fiury 44-22 in Southern Interior Bantam Football Conference play Sunday afternoon at Polson Park.

Dustin Schubert ran the opening kick-off back 70 yards for Verrnon’s first touchdown in their home opener.

On the next offensive possession, facing second down and five, Nathan Meyer ran a three-hole power play for 52 yards for the Wolverines’ second TD.

Greg Hyde caught an eight-yard pass from Kyle Richardson to complete the first-half Vernon scoring.

Daniel Ferriera caught another Richardson toss on a 25-yard flag route to put another TD. Brett Franklin then scampered 64 yards on a sweep for a score.

Dalton Anderson rounded out the Wolverine offence with an off-tackle play, running over two defenders and breaking multiple tackles for a 35-yard touchdown. Richardson went 6-for-6 on convert attempts.

“Dalton had an outstanding day,” said Vernon offensive co-ordinator Lee Elliott. “He’s a complete running back, blocks hard, and when he was running the ball, he ran guys over, making them miss tackles, and he can catch the ball.”

Mike Tkatschow, Meyer, Franklin and Hyde combined for 326 yards running.

“Taylor Jameson and Hyde led the offensive line, while the Wolverines’ Mad Dog Defence manhandled the Fury offence all day, anchored by Hyde and Tkatschow at middle linebacker.

The Wolverines caused seven turnovers, six sacks, and recorded a safety for two points.

The Wolverines entertain the Kelowna Blazers Sunday (noon) at Polson Park.
