The longest shot/ human kill in combat to date was achieved by Canadian army sniper Cpl.Rob Furlong in 2002 in Afghanistan sporting a mcmillan tac-50 at 2.43 kms/2430m. the bullet travelled through the air for four seconds before striking on target. for this shot to be possible he would have had to aim approx 900 inches over the target for the bullet to drop to the right point of contact. This broke previous record held by MCpl. Arron Perry by less than 100 m which was achieved just hours before in the same operation, and before that by American Carlos Hathcock in vietnam at a distance of 2.28km/2286 m .The Canadian soldiers shots were covering U.S. troops advancing on a Taliban position. Their comments were ,quote" Thank god the Canadians were there."

The best estimate as to the average amount of rounds expended per kill in the Vietnam Conflict
(For U.S. Army Soldiers) is 50,000. The average rounds expended per kill by U.S. Army
snipers in Vietnam was 1.3

The U.S. Army determined that the average soldier will only hit a man size target 10% of the time at 300 meters with the M16A2 rifle. The U.S. Army standard for snipers is to hit 90% first round hits at 600 meters with the M24 SWS. That is at least an 1800% improvement over the average soldier.
