Our Programs: Secure Treatment
WHAT DOES SECURE TREATMENT DO TO HELP?
Provides a secure (locked) environment designed to stabilize high-risk children and adolescents.
Assesses children and youth to determine where their needs will best be met.
Provides 24-hour access for Child Welfare clients who are deemed to be at-risk in the community.
Involves clients in short-term counselling aimed at reducing suicidal tendencies, aggressive behaviours and dangerous lifestyles.

Secure Treatment provides a safe and secure setting for Child Welfare clients who are considered to be at extreme and imminent risk in the community. The program offers a high degree of structure and counselling designed to stabilize the child's behaviour. Clients are transferred to community programs as soon as it is determined that a need for this secure environment no longer exists. Placements in Secure Treatment are closely monitored and reviewed by the Family Court system.





CHILDREN AND YOUTH
With Child Welfare status who reside in Southern Alberta or the Calgary Rocky View Region.
Are considered to be at high-risk for self-harm, suicide or aggression in the community.
Have a suspected or diagnosed mental or behavioural disorder.
Will not engage in treatment in an open (unlocked) community setting.
Require a period of confinement to reduce the risk they pose to themselves or others in the community.

SECURE TREATMENT STRIVES TO:
Reduce the level of risk for each youngster to where it can be managed in an open setting.
Provide a safe and secure environment for both clients and staff.
Provide children and youth with more adaptive responses.
Treat the whole person - addressing physical, mental and emotional health as well as spiritual and cultural needs.
