i love this song
We live and we learn to take
One step at a time
There's no need to rush
It's like learning to fly
Or falling in love
It's gonna happen and it's
Supposed to happen that we
Find the reasons why
One step at a time

Victim now faces charges: Woman was taken to hospital with gunshot wound but now charged in shooting death
by Jason Hewlett

A woman who was in the news last year as the victim of a shooting is now before the courts charged with first-degree murder.

Ruby Ann Harry, 39, of Kamloops, is charged in connection with the death of Gary Cavanagh, 36. Police said Monday more arrests are anticipated after what they said was a complex, two-year murder investigation.

Insp. Yves Lacasse said Harry was arrested Friday. She became a key suspect in the investigation when new information came to light six months ago.

“We had a new direction and focus that we needed to follow,” Lacasse said Monday, adding he is not in a position to elaborate.

Cavanagh was found dead in a travel trailer on 12th Street on Oct. 29, 2007. He was killed with a single gunshot to the head.

Harry and Cavanagh were known to each other prior to his death. She had been mentioned in connection with the investigation but was not a suspect at first.

But with new information in hand, a combined force of 75 police officers from Kamloops and detachments in B.C. and other provinces worked day and night to close the case.

The resulting investigation provided officers with enough information that they became confident Cavanagh’s murder was planned.

“That is what we proposed to Crown,” said Lacasse. “The motive is not something I can share with you right now.”

Police believe more people visited Cavanagh the night he was killed.

Lacasse said he can’t comment on how many persons of interest are yet to be rounded up because the investigation is ongoing. He did say one or more of them are from B.C.

Harry and Cavanagh are known to police. Cavanagh was on probation at the time he was killed. He was convicted of possession of stolen property, obstruction of a police officer and possession of break-in instruments.

Harry, also known as Ruby Lampreau, was shot in the chest in May 2007 and driven to Royal Inland Hospital.

She arrived in a Jeep Cherokee with a blood-soaked passenger’s seat and what appeared to be bullet holes in the passenger’s window.

Lawrence Edward Green, 38, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault and was jailed for 14 months on top of the one year he already served. During his sentence hearing, court was told the man fired his rifle at Harry’s vehicle as she apparently threatened to run him over.

Harry is remanded in custody pending a court appearance on Sept. 8.
