Preteen hit by SUV in southeast Calgary

Police respond to the scene of a collision between an SUV and an 11-year-old girl

Calgary police are investigating a Monday morning collision that severely injured an 11-year-old pedestrian.

Just prior to 8:00 a.m., an 11-year-old girl was walking in a marked crosswalk across 44 St. S.E. near 11 Ave. S.E. when she was struck by a Ford Explorer.

The impact of the vehicle sent the girl flying through the air, landing 20 metres from the crosswalk.

Calgary EMS transported the girl to the Alberta Children's Hospital where her condition was upgraded to serious but stable.

Neither alcohol nor speed are consider to be factors in the collision.
