A 16-year-old boy faces one charge of mischief following a three-hour standoff with police Thursday in Yellowknife's industrial area, RCMP told CBC News on Friday.
The teen cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The young man surrendered without a struggle after about two dozen Yellowknife RCMP officers — including negotiators, the emergency response team, a police dog and officers armed with M-16 assault rifles — surrounded him in a temporary housing project in the Kam Lake Industrial Park.
The incident began early Thursday when neighbours reported hearing gunfire. Police chased the young man for a short distance before he hid under a trailer, where he stayed for about three hours before giving himself up.
No weapon was found, but several windows were shot out, perhaps with a gun.
