Icy roads blamed for deaths of two Gibbons teens
EDMONTON - Icy roads are being blamed for the deaths of two young men near Redwater last Friday.
The pair were travelling in a Chevy Lumina on a side road near Redwater, 50 kilometres northeast of Edmonton, at 12:50 p.m. Friday.
They tried to stop at the approach to Highway 643, but the road was icy and the car kept going, said RCMP Sgt. Jennifer Jackson.
The car collided with a water tanker truck and both men died on scene.
Both were 18 and from nearby Gibbons.
RCMP do not think the men were speeding, Jackson said. "The weather was clear. It's just the roads, the side roads, they were extremely icy at the time."
