Goals and shit!
A couple years ago, I was overweight, unhappy, and decided to make a change.

I set some goals.... now this may seem silly, stupid, like a waste of time, weird, whatever...but it was a goal I had in mind.....

I wanted to be like Hugh Jackman and leg press 1000lbs.

Today, I reached my goal.

I warmed up at 450lbs for two sets of eight reps.
I got rolling at 630lbs for two sets of 8 reps.
I started to feel the hurt at 810lbs, one set of 6 reps. This is usually my top weight for strength training.
I put it up to my past maximum at 900lbs, banged out a single set of 6 reps.
TEsted the waters at 950lbs for a single set of 4 reps.

Then I went for broke and got a couple bigger guys to spot, threw on the last 50lbs, and leg pressed 1000lbs for one set of three reps.

My legs are teh hurtz....but it's a neat feeling to know I've accomplished somthign I set out to do for myself.

Just thought I'd share. Oh, and Ryan Kennedy kicks my ass.... love you man, you keep me focused! Sorry for not coming to Tubby Dog tonight, I ate and had to poop really really bad.....

Aside from teh poop, I just wanted to let some of you know about this because as trivial as it seems, sometimes just setting your goals, and focusing on what you want and how you're going to get it is the most important part of growing. And yeah, my legs hurrrrt!

Room for rent at my place!!
As it says in the ad, my name is Curtis. My fellow roomy is Krista. I am a 26 years old, and Krista is 32. We are losing Catherine and her cat Pantouffle, (pronounced pawn-toof,) as Catherine’s new condo is finally ready for occupation. We are hoping you’ll be the right fit for us.

Looking to rent by July 1/08 to a single, professional woman, 24 to 35 years of age, clean and quiet, as we both work. Cat is okay. Smoking is also okay, but only outside on the deck. Having friends over and being social is totally okay by us, as we’re both friendly and quite social.

For rent is one bedroom in a spacious apartment. We are close to all amenities, including a grocery store, restaurants, convenience store, the Calgary Zoo, bus and C-Train. We are ten minutes from down town, fifteen minutes from the Airport, eight blocks from the Trans Canada, only two minutes from Deerfoot Trail, and five minutes from Max Bell Arena.

There are card operated laundry facilities in the building, parking, internet, cable TV, and huge storage in the suite. We are fully furnished, so your room is really your only worry for furniture, and have more pots, pans, plates and cutlery you could ever want. I have been occupying the room up for rent for the past two years, and it is large enough for a desk, a stereo, a dresser and my king size bed with room to spare.

We are really easy going, and often out and about, so if you’re a homebody, this could be ideal for you. If you are like us, the only time you’ll see anyone is right before bed or in the afternoon on the weekend.

Rent is $500 due on the last day of every month, and DD is $500. Utilities are included in rent, so it never costs more.

If this is at all of interest to you, please reply through Facebook or via e-mail to curtisfagan@hotmail.com. I am also available at 403-366-9864. Leave a message, and I’ll usually get back to you within the day.

Jasmine
Is this one of those moments where I learn more about being a man?

I'm not sure. The moments come at the strangest of times. Unexpected, unnerving, and often very sad.

Today I had the day off from work. I went to the Rehab Center to talk insurance with the folks there and install some new speakers in my cab. I was looking forward to jamming with the lads tonight, and then I had to go and drop off the truck at my parents' house in Black Diamond.

I was kind of in a hurry when I got here, so I was thoroughly annoyed when I found no one home. I rang the doorbell and didn't hear anything. The dog, her name is Jasmine, usually runs to the door barking, wagging her tail, just super excited.

But there was nothing. I assumed my sister was out walking her. I got a call from my Mom at the old house, as she was showing it to some prospective buyers. She said she was picking Gina up from her last day at work at Dairy Queen. Gina was excited, because she could be out here, get a job out here, and spend some more time with Jasmine....you have to understand, this dog has an invincable heart.

I was outside waiting in the truck for a couple hours. It never crossed my mind that the dog wasn't actually out with Gina. When they got home, we came in, and she was still nowhere to be seen. We went downstairs immediately thinking maybe she'd locked herself in a room or somthing. We still couldn't find her. I had the sudden thought that maybe she had managed to get out during the day somehow.

Thats when I heard my Mom suddenly cry otu loud, she'd found her in the arm chair where she waits for everyone to get home in the office. Jasmine had gotten into a bag of tortilla chips, gotten it up on her face, and then couldn't get it off. She had suffocated herself in her arm chair.

I can't help but think that maybe if I had looked in the window when I had come to the house, I could have done somthing. I mean, she was warm when I picked her up to wrap her in the blanket. She was stiff, and I couldn't close her eyes for her. She was so heavy, such a muscular little dog, with so much energy. I've never felt so thoroughly humbled or terribly sad ever.

She was a rescue dog that was found under a porch with a litter of five puppies, her and her sister were the only ones left. She was always a super hungry dog when she was a puppy as a result. Always greedy with food, and smart as a whip! She would get herself into any food she could and just feed herself. She could open doors by herself, and she was so vocal.

She'd talk to you, growling and wagging her tail, and if you ignored her, she'd walk up and push herself under your legs and feet and steal your fucking socks! She was so rad. When she wagged her tail, it was a bodily thing, and no matter how shitty your day had been, the stupid dog was stoked to see you and wouldn't let up till you were at least smiling.

I know it sounds stupid, but thats why dogs aren't just pets, but become family members. My family hasn't been without a dog in 30 years. And we've lost two in 6 months.

My Mom and my sister are just devastated. My Dad is in Red Deer for work for the next 5 days, and he's crushed. We cried on the phone together.

I know I'm a selfish man. I know I'm a selfish son. I know I'm not prone to show my affection or allow vulnerability. I'm so sorry for that.

I'm staying with my Mom and Gina tonight. I just can't understand how this could have happened to such a sweet dog. To such a vibrant personality, to such a thoroughly loving and innocent beast as Jasmine.

I've never had to deal with this, and I hope this never happens again. I've not ever really said it, but I'm so glad my family is who they are. I am so happy that a dogs passing causes such grief. My family has huge hearts, and they are all imperfectly perfect.

I miss my dog, and I am so sorry for my family right now. My brother doesn't know, and I hope he doesn't find out here, but I can't just keep this in.

Love,
Curtis

The show last night. PLEASE READ!
I posted this in the shows threads, but I figured it's also worthy of it's own thread for kids to discuss and ask questions there the feel a need. So please read and fire away!

Tomorows show will be fine. The police didn't want to shut us down, they wanted us at capacity. The hard part is saying "Okay, you 138 kids can stay, but you other 200 kids have to go," even though the laws only state anything about 'seated capacity' for venues like this.

Regardless, if we say to those 138 kids that it's alright if they stay, but the other kids have to go, that divides our community and makes us have to play favourites, so we had to ask everyone to leave. It was just completely unfortunate. And the only reason the officers stopped by was because of the number of kids OUTSIDE the venue when they drove by. They weren't even called by neighbours, thats the cheesy thing.

Unfortunately, the officers were just doing their jobs. And it was really only one dude that cared enough to have th Fire Marshall called down. I did not enjoy having to ask the kids to leave. I was so stoked to see so many people out on a Saturday night for bands they've seen a billion times. Shows we've got a pretty strong scene here I think.

Now I didn't book the show, I'm just a big mouth and I did sound, but this show was really great for the bands that did play, and a bummer for the ones that didn't, and even a greater bummer for the kids who had to have their nights ruined by simple Halloween heebeejeebies and one over zealous young police officer.

Sadly, these things happen, and we're working on finding a bigger venue for gigs like this, but Windsor park is still good to go. The hall manager is a sweet dude, and open to shows still. This is due in no small part to how everyone was super positive and helpful, and not in the slightest beligerent or rude or destructive.

We have good kids, a good scene and some unreal passion for live bands here in Calgary, so despie last nights turn of events, I'm very proud of our little sub community here.

Everyone just chill out and relax. Windsor Park is fine, the shows still booked there are fine. Everyone was awesome, and the kids were cool, it just sucks that it wound up like it did.

Curtis

NEW PRICE!

If you do your research, this is Mesas 6L6 driven sleeper. Sleek, sexy, with huge tone brooding behind the unassuming face plate.

Two channels, clean and crunch, with Pre Gain, a classic Fender style amp tone stack with Treble, Mid, and Bass and finally Master Volume. It also has a 100watt/60watt option for when you don't need full power, and want to push those power tubes a bit harder. The Clean channel is very versatile and can be used effectively as a master volume amp as it can be with Master maxed out for that saturated power section feel. It has a Pull Brigh on the Pre Gain knob, which you can use as a gain boost for those sizzling rock tones from your bridge pup, or smooth as butter leads from your neck pup. This channel responds beautifully to tube screamers, and can get that fat, crunchy tone instantly.

The Crunch Channel is my favourite part of this amp. All the guts and glory of a Dual Rectifier or Mark IV with none of the gimmicks, bells, whistles, doo-dads or excessive switch knobbery. Stripped down, simple, and blistering. It has the ability to go from brassy ACDC tone, to the ever coveted EVH sound all the way to modern high gain tones that are perfect for down tuned metal chuggery.

The really cool thing about this channel is the Contour option which essentially gives you a third channel. This feature boosts everything in your signal and takes it that extra little bit, fattening and thickening everything up adding depth and greater presence. You get that really thunderous Red Channel Dual Rec sound without the big price tag or endless knob noodling! Perfect for face melting solos where you need to cut through the mix, and when paired with a V30 loaded Marshall 412,(which I'm very happy to say is my personal choice,) it's astounding, and it gets everyones ear in the club immediately!

It has a very quiet effects loop with a handy level knob. I have never used the loop, but it sounds really great live when I've seen it used by other bands, especially with delay. It has a really effective 412 cab simulator for bedroom/apartment recordings, and an equally effective spring reverb tank, which is operated from the three button footswitch, (included), which is hooked up by a proprietary 5 prong chord. It's not midi, but sort of looks like it. This amp has had about 100hours of play time, over 10 months, twice a week in my bands jam space. It has travelled in my car a handful of times, and played one show. It has never toured, and sounds as good as it did as the day I bought it.

Now the good stuff. This amplifier comes with 2 years left of a 3 year Mesa Boogie Warranty that I purchased with the amp at Long and McQuade in Calgary, AB. All paper work is still included, as well as the Mesa branded head cover.

Brand new, these amps are now going for $2200 at L&M. This head came from one of the last runs Mesa did before they switched over to the 5:25 amplifiers, which just don't have the same guts and balls IMO. I purchased it not realising that Mesa had made that move, and paid full price

I am asking for $1200 Canadian(obo locally), and will ship UPS insured anywhere in Canada upon recieving payment via PayPal. (If shipped, the price will be firm. This is one heavy heavy head.)

I'm sure you're wondering why I am parting with this tone machine, and it's simply every musicians arch nemesis. I have bills I need to pay. It's a real bummer.

So, let my financial misfortune be a great oppurtunity to get yourself a rock solid, beautiful machine that will give you hours of enjoyment voicing your soul through strings and signal!
