When it comes to the argument, between objectivists and nonobjectivists, about there being moral truths I would propose that both arguments are moot. Both sides argue based on the assumption that morality is binary, right and wrong; however, I would suggest that morality is spectral. Each person is born somewhere along the moral spectrum and throughout human history we have been moving toward one extreme, namely, negative moral reinforcement. There are also other factors in play that help to shape peoples’ sense of morality; such as, societal constructs, upbringing, and legal implications. It becomes apparent when one looks at the vastly differing senses of morality and easily explain people that act in ways completely counter to generally accepted moral principles. This theory of the moral spectrum also lends itself quite well to the concept of evolution and natural selection.

Our society works on negative moral reinforcement. There is no definitive way to be a moral person in our society other than not
