My friend had an assignment and it really got me thinking. It was an essay about love and how it makes me real. I thought about it a lot and I wanted to share it with others. As I was writing this I used my friends and family as an inspiration.

Love makes us real firstly because without love we wouldn't trust the people around us. Secondly it brings out the feeling of safety . Lastly with the feeling of trust and safety we can show the people we love who we truly are.

If we know that someone loves us we can trust them more than we did before. These days you never know who to trust and I'm sure everyone knows that. We can't just throw things around like secrets because you never know who will tell who and how far it will spread, but once we feel that connection with someone you really realize that you can believe in this person. The more you trust these people the more you can show yourself to them knowing that it will be kept safe and sound. With that trust it can bring something out of you that you may not realize or if you do most take it for granted.

When we love someone it brings out the sense of feeling safe. We almost all know that from the beginning when you are in your mother and fathers arms that feeling of warmth and safety is all we need to get through our younger years. Although we all "grow out of it" when we get older we know that we still need their love to get us through. But by then we grow older and move on with our lives and end up in a way replacing the love we got from our parents with the love of our husbands/wives. Yet even if we don't end up getting married there is always the love of our friends that bring us through. The sense of safety with these people help us know that we will never truly be alone.

With love in our lives we feel like we can truly be ourself around these people. Whether it's a friend or a boyfriend/girlfriend or even your parents you know that this person will stick with you even when your "flaws" show through. Love brings out a confidence in you that maybe you have never seen before. Those people will stick with you even if you can get angry at times. Hence when you are standing at the alter with your friends beside you and the woman or man you love in front of you the priest makes you vow "for better or for worse". These people are accepting you for who you are which helps you to trust them more and shows that they will stick with you through whatever life throws your way.

In conclusion, love makes us real because without it we wouldn't have that trust which brings on the feeling of safety which helps us know that we can truly be ourself around these people. So next time you think about your friends, family and boyfriend/girlfriend or spouse ask yourself "do these people bring those three things out of me?"
