Payment by Mail, Canada Post
Mail takes anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks.
Sometimes it gets lost in the mail but not very often.
If you bought a Money Order they want you to wait for 6 weeks before you can request your money back.

We get quite a lot of mail with cash in it

There are three safety issues here:

1. Coins fall out
2. Mail gets stolen
3. Mail gets lost through Canada Post

1. Problems with coins are the easiest to solve: Either send paper money or tape down the coins onto the invoice or place inside a plastic bag. If sending coins make sure that there is enough postage because of the extra weight.

2. When people say that their mail got lost (when money is involved) most of the time it is actually stolen right out of people's mail box. We don't have this problem because we have a locked Post Box. Inside theft (from post office staff) is extremely rare. Hiding the money helps this problem.

3. To prevent loss from Canada Post you have some choices:
a) Send by express mail or similar, it is insured and traceable (but more expensive, around $7 postage)
b) Send a cheque, mark it "For Deposit Only" on the back so no one can cash it.
c) Send a money order. If it has not arrived within 6 weeks you can put in a claim

Less than 1% of mail get lost but it does happen. Unless you sent it with insurance (which costs around $6) the Post office does not take responsibility, and neither do we. We divide up the mail job into 2-3 people to virtually eliminate errors/theft and we cannot take responsibility for mail that does not reach us.
