He presented reasonably well groomed, thin but not emaciated young man, mildly psychomotor retarded or at least reserved. There was no gross psychomotor retardation. There was no agitation. He was not pressured or delayed in his speech. His affect was restricted with some socially appropriate, somewhat shallowing smiling at one point during the interview. On the other hand, there were tears which he attempted to suppress and the examiner got the impression of some profound emotional pain when he was talking about his break up one year ago. He was quite forthcoming in discussing the emotional content and his reaction to the event. His thinking was logical. There was no obsessionality nor themes of grandiosity or paranoia. There was no hopelessness nor suicidality. The examiner detected some sense of pessimism which may be consistent with a depressed cognitive set. His cognition was grossly normal.
