We can be thankful to a friend for a few acres, or a little money; and yet for the freedom and command of the whole earth, and for the great benefits of our being, our life, health, and reason, we look upon ourselves as under no obligation. Ask yourself why human nature has come to this.
The conclusion? We were never more, never less, savages. It will always stay that way. Savage is being able to kill someone over their rights to freedom. Their rights to empowerment. This is savage. Mankind will always be the brooding species.
We will never learn to just accept the fact that we're living.. existing... We will never be at full-fledged tranquility. It's the little facts of life that really count. Not how much money you have, or how many friends you have. It's just about living, and trying to shape yourself into the person that you desire, if not the love that you share between someone.
