Has anyone ever taken the chance to ask a dancer why, why eat the rice cake instead of the chocolate chip cookie, why spend 12hrs at the dance studio instead of watching your absolute favorite TV shows, why take the time to put hundreds of rhinestones on a costume that you might wear half a dozen times in your life, why beat up your body until you have bruises all over, why yank your leg past your head so hard that you can hardly walk the next day, why listen to a billion different songs just to find that perfect piece of music, why travel long distances, share beds in hotel rooms the size of a closet, why go to the studio everyday when it's bright and sunny instead of going to the beach, why pressure yourself to remember a million dances & be expected to be perfect everytime you perform, why do you put on fake eyelashes w/glue that rips your real eyelashes out, why do you tape your costume on to your body, & what is with these cutoff sweat pant thingies, why do they seem so quiet at school & yet have enough presence to light up a stage or be crazy, why do they seem to care so much about such minute details? For anyone who isn't a dancer, it's hard to comprehend. To try & explain anything about competition, performing, or dance in general is like talking to a red-neck in Chinese. They don't have the memories of hanging out w/friends in hotel rooms, or taking classes w/brilliant teachers, or going places you never thought you would get to go, or being on a stage with everyone's eyes on you. For all those who are dancers, cherish the good w/the bad, do it because you love to & it makes you happy, not because you need to prove yourself to anyone, because few people can understand a dancer, much less you. And for all those who aren't dancers, take our emotions & cherish our dedication & be thankful that you have a dancer in your life, because we're one of a kind.HEHE
