for the week, it's been super awesome so far!
vision tunneled, Mission Street, hunger beat
lodged out as the engine wheezed
still moving regardless of stable ground
book #1 - something happened by joseph heller
what originally drew me to something happened was the author, i've wanted to read catch-22 forever but was looking for something less war orientated to follow fall of giants. kurt vonnegut also wrote a great review of it, singing praises for heller. it was ok - the main character isn't easy to like, he's a bigot and a lousy father but the book is interesting anyways and the ending is pretty jarring.
book #2 - anna karenina by leo tolstoy
i love this book. there's loads of character depth and an amazing storyline (which is why, i guess, it's a total classic). i've heard that the translation i'm reading isn't as great as the newer one done by p&v which apparently has less influence by the translators but the language is more modern and i feel like that might draw away from the mood of the novel. (ok, and garnett's 1900's translation is free for the kindle. whatever!) about 50% of the way through an article about the movie coming out based on the book spoiled the ending, and i almost felt like putting it down, but i'm really glad i didn't.
i hate making conversation i hate making conversation!
