Our newspapers are filled with stories which tell us about how children die because of the negligence of the parents. There are parents who leave their children unattended near dangerous things, without concern for the safety of the child. Sadly, it is an accepted truth that all parents are not perfect. This can be due to many reasons such as drug abuse, alcohol, divorce or even the character of the parent. But it is unfair to expect all parents to raise their children without help, when its known that they are incapable of doing so. The grandparents must extend their help to them. The
grandparents rights grant them some privileges, but they must not forget their duties as well.
The
grandparents rights legislation aims at reducing all of these disasters that occur due to parent’s negligence. The rights allow the grandparent to take a standing in the court for the best interests of the child.
But unfortunately, there are cases when the parents do the best that they can to help and protect their children, but are opposed by the grandparents. A grandparent must never try to isolate the children from their own parents as that would, clearly, not be in the best interests of the child or the family.
The grandparents play a huge role in shaping a child’s character and future. During hard times, like divorce or such other tragedies, the grandparents are the ones who make the child feel safe and do everything they can for their grandchildren.
