Divorces are very common in today’s world. All the members of the family would be faced by their own problems after the divorce. For the grandparents, they fear losing touch with their grandchildren. Sometimes, divorces result in complete alienation of the grandparents and the children. This does not only affect the grandparents but it will also make the children unhappy; especially if they were close to their grandparents. The courts make decisions regarding the child’s custody. Hence, some grandparents go to the courts to secure their grandparents visitation rights. Now, these rights have been granted by the states- it is not a federal law and it is not found in the constitution.

It is essential for the grandparents to maintain close and friendly relations with their grandchildren, especially during a divorce. In some cases, if abuse was involved, then the grandparents must be there to support the child, to provide it a sense of security, love and care and ensure that there is a proper relation going on between them. Some grandparents might not be allowed to see their grandchildren, depending on the laws of the state, the situation and the character and nature of the grandparents

A divorce is a decision made by the parents and they must ensure that it doesn’t affect the child’s relationship with any of the family members, especially the ones it cares for. grandparents visitation rights help in keeping the family stay close and maintain friendly relations with each other.
