You know your polish if...
- You or someone in your family owns a Nissan Maxima with a PL sticker proudly
displayed on the back windshield and/or a custom-made European license place in the
front (most likely with your name written on it)
- You have relatives who aren't really your relatives
-You sing the same song - “100 lat” - on every occasion (weddings, birthdays, baby
showers)
- You watch soccer
-You know very well Pope John Paul II was Polish and his name was Karol, not Carol
-You go to Midnight Mass every Christmas Eve and keep your Christmas tree up till
February.
- You drink your wodka straight
- You listen to techno
-You don’t feel the need to add an “s” to Pierogi because you already know the word is
plural and it annoys you when others do. However, you still add 'y' to already plural
english words... "chipsy", "dzinsy"
- You are convinced your pets only understand Polish
- You are forced to listen to Disco Polo by your parents
- You can spot Polish people like Asians can spot each other
- When others find out you're Polish, they tell you about every Polish person they've ever
known, which is most likely followed by them mispronouncing common phrases such
as “czesc” or “dziekuje”
- Your name always gets slaughtered on the first day of school
- The thought of eating cow stomach (flaki) doesn’t gross you out
- When you're at a stranger's house, you expect their garbage can to be under the sink
- Every window in your house must have "firanki", even in the bathroom
- Once in a while, you do a big "przemeblowanie" at home
- You always take off your shoes as soon as you step into someone else's house
- You celebrate your birthday AND your nameday, "imieniny"
- You were extremely surprised to learn that American weddings last hours, not days
- You eat 'zupy' as a meal or as a part of two-course dinners (dwa danie)
- You don't use measuring cups when cooking.
- We always do all our own house repairs. Hire a professional!? Never!
- Your family drinks....a lot...
-You always have to earn something before you can get it...
- Your hairstylist is polish...
- Your mom had u before the age of 23
- Your parents don't realize phone connections to foreign countries have improved in the
last two decades, and still scream at the top of their lungs when making foreign
calls "MAMO!? HALO?!? KTO TAM?"
- You talk for an hour at the front door when leaving someone's house.
- Your mom believes the house is never clean enough
- You know what Inka is
- Your parents give tyou garlic when your sick
-Your father cares more about 'kiedy ostatnio zmieniles olej w aucie' than anything else in your life.
