THE PLAN.

Mars, the fourth plant from the sun, this making it colder and drier than any place on earth. It also has a very thin, poisonous atmosphere for humans. Martian surface temperatures range widely from as little as -133 C at the winter pole to almost 27 C on the day side during summer. Though Mars is much smaller than Earth, its surface area is about the same as the land surface area of Earth. Scientists have proven, that there once was running water on Mars, and it was a very similar planet to earth. Sometime in the course of the planets life it went through a serious change that bumped off all of the plants cycles, basically causing the planted to die.

Well here is an idea; lets terraform Mars. To terraform Mars, means to alter the environment on Mars to make it suitable for human living. How do we do this you may ask? Well, it is simple. Here on earth we have a terrible problem with far to many green house gases being emitted into the atmosphere, causing the atmosphere to thicken, and trap harmful UV rays inside the earths atmosphere, causing the earth to rapidly increase temperature, thus, the green house gas effect. On mars, it would be simple. We would place a few special factories on the Martian soil releasing mass amounts of green house gases, thickening the Mars atmosphere. This would then cause the planet to warm up, melting the ice located in the permafrost, and in the northern and southern polar caps. By melting the ice you release CO2(component of ozone), which is frozen amidst the ice (dry ice). As well we would need to put many green houses on Mars filled with plants. These plants will turn a lot of the C02 into Oxygen, which we humans could breathe. Now that the ice is all melted, and formed into lakes, rivers, and oceans, the skies will turn to blue and clouds will form, just like here on earth. We humans, then start colonizing.

Why might we want to do this you may now ask? Well the earth’s population is rapidly increasing. In February 2008, the world’s population is believed to have reached 6.65 billion. In line with population projections, this figure continues to grow at rates that were unprecedented before the 20th century, although the rate of increase has almost halved since its peak, which was reached in 1963, of 2.2 percent per year. The worlds population, on its current growth trajectory, is expected to reach nearly 9 billion by the year 2050. The population did not reach 1 billion until the 1800’s. In the 1600’s when Europe began to become overpopulated, settlers set off over what they thought was the edge of the world and discovered the new land of North America. These settlers basically over a few thousand years conquered and entire continent(NAU). Well soon this is what we will need to do, but instead, we will need to literally step over the edge of the world and head off to the red planet of Mars. Canada is already screwed, we should sell all off our resources (Oil, Water, Wood, and other Minerals) and invest in terraforming Mars. We would definitely have enough funds to follow through with this idea. We could get a whole planet to govern under new leadership, and we, Canada would be the country to be successful in doing so
