THE ACCIDENT... Three more white crosses have been placed on a local roadside following the death of another three teens in a head-on crash near Bruderheim Saturday, Dec. 13. Police say Curtis Shandera, age 16 of Fort Saskatchewan was headed south of Range Road 205 near Bruderheim when his car met a north-bound pickup truck at about 10 p.m. Saturday. They add that it appears Shandera's car was left of the center line approaching the crest of a hill. Shandera died at the scene, along with his passenger, Lois Hoeving, age 15 of Lamont. Another passenger, Blaze Ashmead, age 15, of Bruderheim died later in hospital. Two more passengers in the same car were also seriously injured. The driver of the pickup, a 59-year-old woman from Fort Saskatchewan, was also seriously injured. Memorial services for the teens have been planned at both local high schools. A service will be held for Blaze Ashmead on Saturday, Dec. 20 at the First United Church starting at 1 p.m. A service for Curtis Shandera takes place Friday, Dec. 19, at Bruderheim Moravian Church starting at 2 p.m. A trust fund has been set up at the Fort Saskatchewan ATB Financial on behalf of the family of Lois Hoeving and the Fort Saskatchewan Boys & Girls Club. The three join a long list of recent local traffic deaths.
