got laid off at the beginning of july from welding. i was building everything from blow out prevention units, to automated macheinery, as well as very customized fun things like chopper frames and tanks. our main customer fucked us over so we ran outta work.
im a welder and fabricator. im still an apprentice, my refrences will state that i do better work than most journyman. im experianced in all types of fabrication and most common alloys.
luckily living in alberta i have lots to choose from. i goto school in november. once im finished school, my old shop should be up and runnin again.
dose anyone know of fab shops in or around edmonton that do custom car work like chasis building (DOM, CHROME-MOLLY)?
should i be lookin into body work just to get some experiance tho im not looking to be a ticketed bodyman. it is something im interested in learning for a few months. right now i can afford to live with a lower income.
i need something fun that will keep me interested
also... who should i talk to for resume help?
im kinda scared to see what local #488 would pay me with a permit.
i looked around for jobs today and i found really crappy boring places doing mostly oilfeild stuff. one place offered me $22/hr and thats awsome but they may not have anything for me as of yet and the work is very boring. a few places said they would hire me on the spot for $10 an hour so i turned around and laughed as i walked out.
1 place in particular was where they fabricated tanks for trucks. i was checkin out some of the aluminum welding that the journeymen did and i wouldnt pass em... the welds were hardly uniform and the stop/starts were visible on a TIG weld were its easy to hide and the weld is deffinitely penetrated when everything blends, and the contamination was pretty bad in some spots.
i couldnt believe the best these guys could offer me is 10/hr.
i do so much and the majority goes un noticed.... far more than even the close ones would think
