When one of our pets is very sick, we put them down when they are suffering miserably or have no chance of getting better. I see reason with that logic, but I don't understand why people put dogs down just because they can't control their bladder.
A few years ago, there was a dog out at my grandmother's. She lives there with my dad, my uncle and my aunt. The dog's name was Alley, and a few months before her death, it seemed she couldn't control her bladder. There didn't appear to be anything wrong with her, except for the peeing issue. My dad and the rest of the family talked it over, and decided that if she didn't stop within three months, then they would put her down. I was a little upset, but alright with the reasoning. Every night, I would pray that Alley would stop peeing on the floor so she could prolong her life, and sometimes my aunt or myself would help keep her messes a secret by cleaning it up and not telling anyone else about it. Then the next week, I went out, and my uncle told me they had put the dog down. I walked in the door and all he said was "Alley's gone." I was immensely hurt, considering I had loved this dog since I was born (the dog was about two years older than I was.) I was also angry that the dog had gotten put down for such a stupid reason. You can buy dog diapers!
So please, don't kill your dog or any other pet just because they have bladder issues and are not suffering. How would you feel if someone killed you just because you had to pee too much? Just give it some thought, that's all I ask.
Thank you.
