CONTEST: Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist Prize Pack

Posted: October 3, 2008

WHAT YOU DID AND WHAT YOU GOT

It's been 3 weeks, 2 days, and 23 hours since Tris broke up with Nick. And now here she is at his gig, with a new guy. How could she have moved on so fast? Nick, in a desperate attempt to show her he's moved on too, turns to the girl next to him and asks her to be his 5-minute girlfriend. This begins the night of Nick, Norah, and Manhattan. The night of stripping nuns, hotel ice rooms, Russian food, psychotically Jewish ex boyfriends, and lovingly trashy ex-girlfriends. It's the night of Julio and Salvatore. The night of holding hands and writing songs and singing in the rain. It's a night they'll never forget.

If you had only one infinite playlist what would it be? This was our version of the desert island mix tape challenge. What were 10 songs you couldn't live without to compile the ultimate mix. For a little extra credit, you could tell us a little bit about why you chose the songs you did. 10 lucky winners walked away with a Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist prize pack; each with a copy of the movie soundtrack, a movie poster, a t-shirt, and a postcard.

WINNERS

SweetLips

I`m not good with short explanations.. so here are the explanations as to why I love these 10 songs.. and a few lyrics to back me up.

1. "Decode" - Paramore
(This is Paramore's newest song, and it holds a special place in my heart because it is to be one of the songs on the Twilight movie Soundtrack, And being the Twilight fangirl that I am, this song makes me very very happy. It is beautifully written and fits the Twilight them perfectly! Everytime it comes on it makes me smile.)
"How can I decide what's right? When you're clouding up my mind
I can't win your losing fight, all the time "

2. "Time is Running Out" - Muse
(Muse is by far one of my favorite bands. I can listen to anything by them over and over again and never get sick of it. I think they are incredibly talented and have a different sound to them. This song has another Twilight theme to it, so again it makes me really happy. It`s also my ringtone on my cell.)
"You're something beautiful, a contradiction, I wanna play the game, I want the friction"

3. "The Good That Won`t Come Out" - Rilo Kiley
(Rilo Kiley is brilliant. Another of my favorite bands. They communicate to me on a different level because it seems that every song came right out of my brain. IT was really hard to choose one song. But this one really reflects what I think about the world. )
"Let's get together and talk about the modern age
All of our friends were gathered there with their pets just talking shit
About how we're all so upset about the dissapearing ground, As we watch it melt"

4. "You Are What You Love" - Jenny Lewis
(Jenny Lewis is also brilliant (she is a big part of Rilo Kiley) Her songs just make so much sense to me. This song is great. Her writing style is so unique and again, always seems like she is writing out of my own head.)
"But you are what you love, And not what loves you back
And I'm in love with illusions, So saw me in half
I'm in love with tricks, So pull another rabbit out of your hat"

5. "Dark Blue" - Jack's Mannequin
(This song makes me think about a lot of great times I had in jr. high/high school. When my best friend and I would just hang out and listen to good music. It makes me happy, and it`s a song I never get sick of. It`s upbeat and I love singing along with it.)
"Dark blue, (dark blue)
Have you ever been alone in a crowded room well I'm here with you,
I said the world could be burning 'til there's nothing but dark blue.."

6. "Hope for The Hopeless" - A Fine Frenzy
(I love this song. It`s kind of self explanatory. It gives me hope when I feel like nothing's going right. Also it reminds me of a good friend of mine.)
"Making the best of it, playing the hand you get
You're not alone in this.. There's hope for the hopeless"

7. "Styrofoam Plates" - Death Cab For Cutie
(This is a song that reminds me of my father. He`s a deadbeat. Not a good dad. And even though this song should make me feel worse, I`m comforted when listening to it. It`s almost a perfect fit, except I may not be as hostile.)
"It's no stretch to say you were not quite a father
but the donor of seeds to a poor, single mother that would raise us alone.
We never saw the money that went down your throat, through the hole in your belly. "

8. "Round Here" - Counting Crows
(The Counting Crows bring me back to my childhood. Having good times with my mom and my brother, travelling. This song just brings good memories all around. And it`s on one of my favorite CDS of all time. Plus I love the lyrics.)
"Round here were carving out our names
Round here we all look the same
Round here we talk just like lions
But we sacrifice like lambs
Round here shes slipping through my hands"

9. "Can`t Go Back Now" - The Weepies
(The lyrics for this song touch me in a very powerful way. It makes me think about my boyfriend, and how until he met me, no one believed in him. And I believe in him more than anyone ever will, or could put together. I know that no matter what he does, he will succeed and I will never let him think that he will fail)
"But you and me walk on
Cause you can't go back now
And yeah, yeah, go where you want to go
Be what you want to be,
If you ever turn around, you'll see me."

10. "Heart" - Stars
(Heart makes me think of a not so great time in my life, but I believe that Stars write beautiful songs. And no matter what the songs are about, they always make me happy.)
"Time can take it's toll on the best of us
Look at you you're growing old so young
Traffic lights blink at you in the evening
Tilt your head and turn it to the sun"

phobia,

My infinite playlist: (Sorry the explanations are so long!)

1. Jay Brannan- "Ever After Happily"
I chose this as my number one song because the song is about homosexuals, and how when we're young, we are taught that heterosexual marriage is normal. But it isn't normal for everyone, and I think Jay Brannan did a beautiful job of portraying the difficulties in a homosexual's lifestyle, along with creating a wonderful melodie. It talks about how homosexuals have to keep their love a secret, and don't end up living ever after happily.

2. The Faces- "Ooh La La"
I chose this as my second favorite song because I absolutley love acoustic songs, and great lyrics, both which are apparent in this song. I also like listening to bands that not many people know of, like The Faces. This song isn't exactly new, but it still makes me smile, and I think that's all that matters when it comes to music. "I wish that I knew what I know now, when I was younger" Pretty much sums up the whole song, and that's why I love it. I originally heard this song in the movie "Without a Paddle", and I instantly fell in love with it.

3. Edwin McCain- "I'll be"
I love this song because of it's metaphorical and deep lyrics, and Edwin McCain's voice is so soothing. I could listen to this song a million times and never bore of it, it's just amazing. I like listening to song that are about love, but often the lyrics are shallow and boring, not like "I'll be". He describes love differently than I've ever heard, which is why I enoy this song so much.

4. Jimmy Eat World- "Hear You Me"
This song makes me incredibly sad, but I listen to it constantly anyway. It reminds me of the death of my Grandmother, who I was very close with. The lyrics say: "May angels lead you in", I think it's talking about heaven, which is where my Grandmother must be. When I listen to this song, it makes me remember all of our beautiful memories, and makes me think that maybe she's still watching over me, and my family.

5. Regina Spektor- "The Call"
I first heard this song in the movie: "The Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian" and as soon as I got home from the theatre, I searched it up on google, frantic to find it. This song is a very uplifting one, about making it throug the tough times, with your loved ones by your side. Any time I feel sad, I listen to it, and feel better. It makes me feel like something amazing is about to happen, almost like in a movie, when the main character realizes something important, and can solve their problem.

6. Nickel Creek- "When You Come Back Down"
This song reminds me of when my bestfriend moved to Quebec, and it always makes me a little bit sad, but happy, because she gets to start new, and be with her family. "You got to leave me now, you got to go alone, You got to chase a dream, one that's all your own." Is what the song says, which is exactly what I told my bestfriend when she left. The song portrays EXACTLY what I feel, because it says that its very sad that someone is leaving, but when they come back, the singer will still love them equally.

7. Bryan Adams- "Summer of 69"
There are two reasons why I hold this song so close to my heart. The first would be that this is my Dad's favorite song, and whenever we go camping, or for a long drive, he plays this. When I listen to it, it reminds me of him, and how much we've gone through. We have a very strained relationship, but this song reminds me of the good times I've had with him. The second reason would be that this song talks about a great summer that Bryan Adams had, and it makes me remember the great summer that I had a year ago. It's ultimatley a happy song for me, and I don't think I could live without it.

8. John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John- "You're the one that I want"
I doubt any other contestants will put a song from Grease as one of their favorites, but you never know. ANYHOW, I LOVE this song. It pretty much just makes me think about Grease, and what Grease is about. It's about a guy who really is sweet, but plays a bad-ass around his friends. I think this movie, and the song, represents the quote: "Just be yourself". Also, this song is just very upbeat and puts me in a good mood.

9. The Pogues- "Fairytale of New York"
This song is from the movie: "Ps, I love you". I've never liked any Irish songs, until I heard "Fairytale of New York." I really like how it starts off slow, and becomes faster and faster. The lyrics are funny, yet deep, which is a change. "I've got a feeling this years for me and you", is a lyric from the song. That's how I feel about someone, like I think that everything will come together in 2009. This song really tells a story, an a captivating one. I think the songs that you don't hear on the radio regularly, are the good ones.

10. Helen Stellar- "Io"
I wish I could offer a good explanation for this song, but I can't. It makes me feel like I'm in a movie, and there's only two lyrics in the whole song. But I think it's an excellent song because it can make you feel extreme emotions, without using a lot of lyrics. This is one song where the music takes me, not the singer, and that's not something usual for me.

01. Cyndi Lauper - "Girl's Just Want to Have Fun"
02. David Bowie - "Let's Dance"
03. Dead or Alive - "You Spin Me Around (Like a Record)"
04. Depeche Mode - "Just Can't Get Enough"
05. Flying Lizards - "Money (That's What I Want)"
06. Lipps Inc. - "Funky Town"
07. Men Without Hats - "Safety Dance"
08. New Order - "Blue Monday"
09. Pink Floyd - "Another Brick In The Wall"
10. The Presidents of the United States of America - "Video Killed the Radio Star"

This would definitely be by playlist. Unfortunately it's not endless, but if I could add more, I'm sure there would be plenty more songs from the 80's and late 70's, lol. I can't help myself, but these songs are just awesome songs to listen to. They're perfect for dancing to! You know you can't deny that, haha.

We all know that "Girl's Just Want to Have Fun", and any night out with my girls is a night to remember. It may be a "Blue Monday", but that won't stop us from going down to "Funky Town". If you're feeling like "Another Brick in the Wall", I'll say 'Let's Dance the "Safety Dance"' because It'll make everyone happy! We "Just Can't Get Enough" of these awesome songs! Maybe we'll meet some guys and flirt with them and say '"You Spin Me Around"' while they spend their "Money" buying us drinks. And when they wanna take us home, we'll just laugh and leave them with a metaphor 'Don't you know that "Video Killed The Radio Star"?'

takecover;

1.) "Your Ex-Lover is Dead" by Stars
I chose this song because it has a very sentimental feel to it, yet the story within the song is quite tragic. It is about two old lovers who run into each other by fluke, and end up taking a taxi together because of the heavy rainfall. I love this song, because the sound is different, and I have not yet found a song that sounds remotely like it. Plus, I love the duet. Someday, I would like to do a photo shoot of two young people, to represent this song. Also, I fear that one day this could happen to me.

2.) "Drive My Soul" by Lights
I actually came across this song pretty recently. I heard it on the radio during the summer. In a frantic panic, I quickly typed any lyric that I could comprehend into my phone, so I would be able to hear it later. When I got home, I learned that the artist is Canadian (yay!). Anyways, cliche as it may sound, this song reminds me of my boyfriend. He drives my soul, hehe.

3.) "Almost Lover" by A Fine Frenzy
Okay, so you might be starting to notice a pattern here, I like... romantic songs. A lot. Anyways, this song is about a girl being led on. She has to face the facts and say goodbye to her "Almost Lover". I like this song because of the gentle vocals, I know if I were in the position of the vocalist, I would be anything but gentle. I guess that's what makes this song ironic. Sometimes we make ourselves appear as if something is easy, even if it isn't. Many people refuse to show struggle or sadness in front of others. This song conveys thats.

4.) "Ob-la-di Ob-la-da" by The Beatles
This is my ultimate "feel good" song. During high school I participated in nearly every theatrical production that I possibly could. This would eventually begin to make me a very tired, perma-groggy, person. So, while we applied make-up and put our costumes on, I would demand that this song be played. Because then I could sing and dance about how Desmond and Molly fell in love and got hitched. Life goes on!

5.) "Winter Sleep" by Olivia Lufkin
This song stunted a chain reaction of events for me. I first heard it near Christmas last year. I actually heard it the night that we put up our Christmas tree. First let me explain that Olivia is a Japanese artist. I took Japanese when I was in grade nine, and let it rest because I found it too challenging. However, I have always had that special place in my heart for anime and other Japanese crazes. This song is entirely English. When I went to look up more from this artist, I found out that: not only is this woman Japanese, but they used her songs to voice an anime vocalist. The anime is called NANA. Anyways, to make it short, since last Christmas, I have seen every episode of NANA and it also made me start reading mangas. (I have also read every single NANA to date). This song itself, awesome-and it really does put you into a winter-y type of mood.

6.) "Date Rape" by Sublime
This song just makes me lol. Anyways, it's connected to a special memory that I share with my theatre friends. So, it's common knowledge that most of my friends are goofy, from being in theatre and all. During our off-blocks, or lunch, we would all hang out in a little lounge and listen to music. During this time, the boys would gather around and play a game called "let's serenade Jessica". In which, they would turn on Date Rape, lip sync and make all sorts of perverse motions towards her. This whole ordeal could pretty much always make my day.

7.) "Riot Girl" by Good Charlotte
I am not at all embarrassed to admit that I used to be a DIE HARD fan of Good Charlotte (okay, maybe just a little). I was pretty much overly obsessed. As in, had posters of them all over my walls, knew weird personal information about them, taped any tv appearance that they had made, had hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise.. that kind of thing. The whole obsession withered once I saw their video: "I Just Wanna Live". Apparently all it takes to fall out of love with Good Charlotte, is their lead man to dance around in a pizza slice suit. Anyways, I chose Riot Girl because it reminds me of the time that they liked girls with: "tattoo's and piercings", and who liked "Minor Threat and Social Distortion". Look at their dating status today: Joel is the father of Nicole Richie's child, and Benji is dating her notorious best-friend (ex best-friend?) Paris Hilton. I'll tell you one thing: Nicole and Paris may have tattoo's, they might even have piercings. But I truly do not believe that they like Minor Threat or Social Distortion. The only artist that Paris is probably interested in is Good Charlotte and herself. Sorry to anyone who put/is going to put "Stars are Blind" on their top ten.

8.) "Yellow" by Coldplay
I used to HATE Coldplay. I mean, change the channel/radio station whenever they came on. During a talent show at my school one year, these two girls did an acoustic rendition of this song. Their voices went together perfectly. I was mesmerized by the lyrics. And sure enough, the song was originally performed by Coldplay. It was then, that I decided to give them a chance. And now, well, I like them! Apparently all it took was two girls and a guitar.

9.) "Baby Got Back" by Sir-Mix-Alot
If you were alive in the 90's and don't know this song...wow. Just wow. Most school dances that I've been to in the past, have played this song, and when the first "Dun dun dun dun" beat is played, all the girls are like "OHMYGAWD!". I am one of those girls. At that point, it's always awesome to turn to the person beside you, (who also knows all the lyrics) and just scream that little heart out. Somehow, it's just not as fun when you can't sing it with anybody else. Once during a wedding, my Aunt was the most drunk I had ever seen her-she smacked a whole bunch of booty during this song. My Aunt is 40. Anybody can enjoy this song. Seriously. And besides, who doesn't like a big booty?

10.) "Iris" by The Goo Goo Dolls
Thank goodness for movie soundtracks. This song probably wouldn't have been created if it weren't for "City of Angels"-which is also an awesome movie by the way. This song, again, restates the fact that I'm a major romantic. It also ties into a memory with an ex-boyfriend of mine, my "first love" so to speak.

Good.Violence

My playlist:

1) Joaquin Sabina - "la cancion mas hermosa del mundo"
I picked that song because it is one of my favourite songs, and the title means the most beautiful song in the world, I think the title fits the song.

2) bicycle thief - "cereal song"
this song is about a man that was addicted to drugs, and he regrets ever taking them and blames them for his present.

3) IAM - "Ne sous la meme etoile"
this song is by one of the most famous french hip hop groups and talks about the inequalities in life.

4) Elliott Smith - "Waltz # 2 ( XO mom)"
I just love the lyrics in this song, i am not sure if its a love song, but Elliott had a way with words that amaze me.

5) Leo Ferre - "La solitude"
a song about a guy who is lonely within the normal loneliness of the world.

6) red hot chili peppers - "wet sand"
I just love singing this song, and it has really pretty lyrics

7) Jeff Buckley - "Hallelujah"
I will never get tired of Jeff Buckleys voice.

8) Kjarkas - "Chuquiago Marca"
its an ode to the city where I was born and raised in my childhood. ( La Paz, Bolivia)

9) Immortal technique - "Freedom of speech"
Immortal keeps it real, and tells the listener that the only want you can be uncensored is if you do it yourself.

10) Fugazi - "long division"
A brilliant song, complex and i love listening to it again and again and again.

cellar.door

Cellar.door's (Joey's) Infinite Playlist:

1) "Australia" - The Shins
This song is the first one, on this Infinite Playlist because it always pops in my head when anyone mentions their "favourite song". As irreverent as this song is, it helps me through the lows of my life; I had experienced death in my family, and this song was my favourite at the time. It reminds me of going through adversities, and living through them, pulling through and not letting it get to you.

2) "Mess Around" - Ray Charles
I'm on that deserted island, no one with me. I have to entertain myself somehow, and this song is perfect for that. I have to dance, sing, lip synch, pretend to play a piano (blindly I might add), or anything that else that seems to be a good idea at the time. It's just fun a song.

3) "The Mistress Witch from Mcclure (Or The Mind That Knows Itself)" - Sufjan Stevens
The Mistress Witch from Mcclure, is such a beautiful song, I know I wouldn't be able to stay on a deserted island without it. The harmony of both vocals and instruments is too much to give up. It also tells a wonderful story, sad story, that both warms, and tugs at your heart.

4) "The Underdog" - Spoon
My most played song on iTunes. That doesn't mean much, but it's the most played for so many reasons. How simple it is, how it can just get me every time, to start semi-dancing (which I am right now as I type this, as I think about it). It inspired me to keep going with instruments, even how weird and odd they are, as they can be incorporated into any song, whether new or old.

5) "On The Radio" - Regina Spektor
"You laugh until you cry, you cry until you laugh...” It makes so much sense, in everyone's life, I could easily live with this song for the rest of my life. I needn't say more.

6) "A Day In The Life" - The Beatles
It's hard to sum up the reasons why I loved this song, without rambling senselessly. Basically: a song wrapped within another one, flowing beautifully between each other. Whether its the melody, or just John Lennon's and Paul McCartney's voices complimenting each other, or the big, grandeur presentation of the whole song, I love this song, easily my favourite, of many Beatle songs.

7) "Good Times Gonna Come" - Aqualung
I'm still stuck on this island, with no one. I'm down for the count, bored, miserable, sad, homesick, nothing to look up to. I need some inspiration. I need to think of when I'm going to be off of this island, and all the good times I've had through out my years of living. Admire the beauty of the world around me, and I know, good times are going to come.

8) "Vienna" - Billy Joel
This song is almost inspiring for me. It reminds me to keep my head, make sure I don't rush through things, live my life, rather than worrying about trivial things.

9) "Jealous Guy" - John Lennon
This song has such a beautiful essence. Any words I could possibly say, wouldn't do this song justice. You just have to listen to it, and just lose yourself within it. Lose yourself within the heartbreak, the pain, the sadness, and the apologies.

10) "Read My Mind" - The Killers
For once in this entire playlist, I will be blunt: I will never get sick of this song. I haven't for the two years that I've loved it. It describes how I want to get out of this city, amount to something bigger, something more important.

poeticterrorism

1. "All That I Need" (Blind Melon)
With an opening line like "all that I need is the air that I breathe", you can't not love this song.

2. "Back and Forth Again" (Slash's Snakepit)
The title says it all. The ultimate song about a relationship on the edge of ending, but also just an amazing composition to listen to anytime. The incredible solo break isn't all that bad either, mind you.

3. "The Will to Death" (John Frusciante)
From Frusciante's solo works, it's still such a hard hitting song. Frusciante opens up and lets his emotions go especially in his solo work, and this is one of the most raw, untouched songs that he has ever composed.

4. "Leaving on a Wednesday" (The loveGods)
from a smaller Australian/English/French band based in Brighton, the loveGods are mine. Every time I go to England, I immerse myself in their music, and the fact that I am on speaking terms with the band makes their music just that much more special to me. Sweeping orchestral backing in this (from when they ditched their bassist for a cellist), Déah's voice is searing, and it's just from an extremely emotional era for the band.

5. "Clouds Rolling By" (Bigbang)
Norway, land of fjords, a universally known metal scene, and cold. Also for Bigbang, known as Norway's best live band ever. Clouds Rolling By combines incredibly well written lyrics, beautiful clean string tones, and Øystein Greni's voice in top shape. I had this song's lyrics in my Nexopia forum signature for over a year up until about a week ago.

6. "Fuck Forever" (Babyshambles)
Don't let the title toss you, it's one of Pete Doherty's most anthematic tunes ever, continuing on in his quest for his Albion (true english lifestyle). This song has been my soundtrack for much of the last year, especially when in an exceptionally (ehm), anti-everything mood.

7. "Locomotive" (Guns N' Roses)
as a diehard GN'R fan for many years, of course there has to be at least one Guns song on here. Locomotive is from the Use Your Illusion era, regarded as some of Guns' best work ever. Slash lamented the difficulty of the lead rhythm riff, Axl switches his vocal tone so many times it's hard to keep track of who he is, and the end breakdown is absolutely mind-boggling with it's sweeping layers. Use Your Illusion I & II have been alongside me for years now, and Locomotive has always been the highest point.

8. "Black" (Pearl Jam)
Not much is needed to be said about Black. If you've heard it, you know what I mean when it's one of the most concrete songs on this playlist. If you haven't heard it, listen to it.

9. "Every Day Is Exactly The Same" (Nine Inch Nails)
a classic NIN piece. Reznor in my opinion is one of the most forward thinking artists of our time, and although it may not be one of his most in-depth tracks, the musicianship is perfect, the vocals are great, and he means what he says.

10. "There Was a Time" (Guns N' Roses)
Of course I don't have this song... because it's off the unreleased Chinese Democracy album... and wasn't supposed to be "leaked"... right? No, this song is the first track I thought of when I read "make your ultimate playlist". With over 700 plays in my iTunes count and it being my favorite song of all time, this is it. Axl comes back with this masterpiece, screaming and recalling his past life. Love 'em or hate 'em yourself, I love the new GNR. I love the old GNR as well. Two completely different bands, and There Was a Time is an anthem for new Guns. Axl's back.

Rrenn

Lauren's Nowhere Near Infinite Playlist (10 songs isn't enough.)

1. "Boats and Birds" - Gregory and the Hawk
"I live to let you shine" This song is like a dream I could listen to a thousand times in a row. Stars as a metaphor for a relationship is cute too. If only RD would be my star.

2. "This Year" - The Mountain Goats
"I am going to make it through this year if it kills me" It's the ultimate spontaneous road trip song, back story of harsh times, followed by the hope of a good year to come. It reminds me of RD and I wish that I could be Candy.

3. "Vila Rada" - Nicola Sarcevic
If you're still alive, if you still haven't closed your eyes, if you're still rambling around at night, I'll be waiting here for you" There's always a person in life that you think about now and then and wonder what happened to you, it's that person that made a difference that you didn't realise when you knew them, but now you think about them, clueless as to how to contact them, yet hoping that they're alive and that someday you can tell them.

4. "Descending" - The Feverfew
And now in the mirror I see that look on my face, it's half disappointment and half disgrace." This song is so heartbreakingly relevant to all times that you feel terrible worthless and alone in this world, yet listening to this song makes you realise that so many other people share those feelings. Finding solace in solitude.

5. "Existentialism on Prom Night (acoustic)" - Straylight Run
You would kill for this, just a little bit, you would" The piano is so beautiful, enough said.

6. "Are You There Margaret, It's Me, God" - The Lawrence Arms
Cuz I'm out here all by myself and i aint got no place to sleep Probably one of my favourite pop punk songs ever, and one of the funnest songs ever and one of those songs I could listen to forever because of the awesomeness of it and the awesomeness of the band. Yeah.

7. "Kissed the Bottle" - Jawbreaker
I kissed the bottle, I should have been kissing you" THE STORY OF MY LIFE, if only RD knew how much I loved him and then we could finally be lovers and I could stop drinking.

8. "TV Party" - Black Flag
"TV PARTY TONIGHT! TV PARTY TONIGHT!" I want every friday night to resemble the lyrics to this song. I wish every friday night the RD would come over and have a sexy tv party with me. This song I could listen to forever because it's fun and awesome and omg totally stellar.

9. "Life" - Our Lady Peace
"Life is waiting for you, it's all messed up but it's okay"- This song reminds me of junior high school and it used to have such an impact on me. I like to listen to it often to think about how things used to be and now how things are. It's a good reminder of how life is always changing for me.

10. "Suicide Medicine" - Rocky Votolato
"Is it the red wire, or the blue wire, just pick one and cut it just doesn't matter anymore." This song has probably had the most profound impact on my life over any other song. The lyrics, the vocals, everything pierces into my soul and makes me feel terribly refreshed and amazing. I <3 Rocky.

Danae's "Yugo and Yulisten" Playlist

1. "Lemon-Aid" by Gob
the perfect start to a perfect playlist. i've been a big fan of gob since i was about thirteen and i believed they were quite hardcore for using the f word a lot haha. no matter how many times i hear this song, i still want to bounce around and yell it out. especially good for when i'm feeling rejected or angry.

2. "Boats and Birds" by Gregory And The Hawk
kay, time to take it down a notch. don't want to get too crazy too fast. this song is extremely mellow and the sound of it makes me feel like i'm actually on a floating ship. the lead singer has a gorgeous voice and it's so soft you can almost feel it in your ears. the lyrics are also beautiful. "i live to let you shine."

3. "Can't Stay The Same" by Saves The Day
ever got the feeling that someone you loved was drifting away and changing? of course you have. that's exactly why i chose this song. as much as i'd love to hold onto the people i care about forever, this song constantly reminds me that there are times when things need to change in our lives. all we can do is accept it.

4. "The Girl" by City And Color
gosh, it was hard to only pick one of dallas green's masterpieces but this one is so pretty and lyrical that i couldn't ignore it. seriously, any girl who ever listens to this song will immediately fall in love with this man, unless she is a grouchy, tone deaf witch. one day i hope a boy will pen something like this for me..

5. "Clothes Off!" by Gym Class Heroes
please don't assume i'm a dirty skank for choosing a song that is about partying and undressing! i love this song for the funky beat and for the wonderful mix of travie's raps and guest singer patrick stump's crooning voice. an even better mashup of the two than Cupid's Chokehold. my friend, i promise you.

6. "Oceans" by The Format
what a sad day it was when this group split up. yet another band that makes it hard to choose only one of their songs. the electro sounds of Oceans makes me smile again and again and makes me think about the people who are separated from me by distance.

7. "Sending Postcards From A Plane Crash (Wish You Were Here)" by Fall Out Boy
ah, how i miss the days when fall out boy was bitter and more garage band sounding. the immediate crunch of guitars at the start never fails to cause me to bust out the air guitar. another great song to listen to when you're having troubles with love and romance, especially if it's recently gone sour. i love to pretend i'm singing this to all the dumb boys of the past. epic line = "fake it like you matter, that's a lie we can both keep!"

8. "You Won't Know" by Brand New
one of my all time favorite bands. i saw them play this live and it always gives me shivers. i love how it starts out very slow and moody and than halfway through the song, BAM! anger, anger, anger. this should be the resounding anthem of anyone who has ever felt ignored or like no one cares about what they're going through. the band has such a large amount of raw emotion and they should never be ignored.

9. "There Is" by Boxcar Racer
it's not that i was never a fan of blink 182, (because i was and am) i completely fell in love with mark and travis's side project, boxcar racer. There Is has been one of the songs that has always stuck with me since i first heard it over five years ago. i'm constantly wondering if there's really anyone in the world that i am meant to be with and this song vocalizes my fears so well it's scary. best part of the song? "will i shake this off, pretend it's all okay, that there's someone out there that feels just like me? there is."

10. "Hold Me Down" by Motion City Soundtrack
if you've been dumped, you will relate to this song. talking about finding a goodbye note from an ex, the leader singer conveys such a strong feeling of hurt and rejection that you'll want to track him down and give him a hug. it's confusing to be dropped by a person who claims they still care for you fo sho. stunningly beautiful lyrics that will enable you to picture every line. the perfect end to a perfect mix. "i love you; however, you hold me down."

UNFORGIVEN,

001 : "All These Thing's I Hate" by Bullet4MyValentine
- i choose this song to add to my top 10, because it's one that gets me through those times when i don't know what to do, or what to say. the lyrics hit home with me, because i don't have a perfect family, and i never have. "find that safe place you can hide" i've always tried to find a place i could go to get away from everything going on at home, but i never have. not yet at least. "wear your heart on your sleve, make thing's hard to believe." It just seems that everything i hate is actually revolving around me. Everything im scared of, Everything im worried about, Everything i hate, is in constant rotation around me. But i've learned to live with it. Whenever i feel like giving up, i stop and play this song. "It's the best place to be when your me." the best place to be when your me? when your me, you want to be alone.

002 : "Till The Day I Die" by Story Of The Year
- I was first introduced to this song by my first kiss. He told me about how he was going to do a cover version of the song on his acoustic guitar. me being foolish thought that maybe he was doing it for me. once i heard the song, i started to bawl my eyes out. it was exactly how i felt for him. "but if you died right now, you know that i'd die too." he once told me, than if i would die, he would too. it made my heart stop and my mind, race. and to this day, i stillt hink about it. "we'll never fall apart, so tell me why this hurts so much. my hands are at your throat, and i think i hate you." We fell apart, and even to this day, i could never hate him for all the pain he'd broughten me. he'd used me, and i still loved him. i was just that one chick. "until the day i die, i'll spil my heart for you."

003 : "This flesh A Tomb" by Atreyu
- I remember talking to my first kiss about this song. It reminded me of all my previous relationships, and how screwed up they were. The lyrics in the song are so strong, and just hit home with me. i don't know how to describe it. the words just keep me breathless, and feeling renewed. i cry everytime i hear it, but i just cant stop listening to it. " and i , feel imortale. and i wanna make you feel the same. so stand by me. as we immolate, we can burn in each others arms."

004 : "When Everything Falls" by Haste The Day
- "i will stand, i will stand. when everything falls away. i will fight this war forever, or until i die." this song means a lot to me, because it's like the battle im fighting is the one with the world. and until i die i will never give up. i'll never give up fighting for what i think is right. i'll never give up fighting for who iam. i'll never give up fighting for the ones i love. i won't give up until im pysically, mentally, and emotionally unable.

005 : "Stiches" by Haste The Day
- Another Haste The Day song. they have so many good songs with such amazing lyrics. This song is one that i love because it's telling you to speak up and let yourself be heard regardless of the concequences. If yo have something that needs to be said, then say it. Don't waste time by keeping your mouth closed. "5 words, is all you have to say. your. worth. more. than. this." No matter what your parents or siblings or peer's say to you, your only human. your diffrent from they. Don't let them get you down.

006 : "Not Alone" by All That Remains
- This is Mine and a very good friend's song. He heard it, and immeditaly told me, that it reminded him of me. Because he's not alone when im around, and that i'd always be there for him when he needed. and vise versa. It's a simple explination, and song, but the meaning of it all is the world to me.

007 : "The End Of Heartache" by Killswitch Engage
- Last summer a good friend of mine tried to overdose. She was put into the hospital, and the only song i could listen to was this one. i don't really know why. but for some reason it was just one that i needed to keep sane. She was someone i couldn't live without, like a twin sister i wish i lived with. We had the same lives and i loved her with my heart. "this distance, this dissolution. i cling to memories while falling." my world was falling apart as i knew it. i felt so alone, and the only thing i had left were the memories of the people i'd once knew. i didn't know where to go, but this song helped me out so much. I gave in and tried to commit suicide, but gave life another chance. My friend was out of the hospital and getting beter daily.

008 : "Tears Don't Fall" by Bullet For My Valentine
- I used to be so obsessed with this song, for so many reasons. I felt as if, everytime i'd cry, someone would feel my pain somewhere in the world. i began thinking of all the possibilities of life. while trying to find out those possiblilities, i began questioning life itself. i'd givin up on almost eveything. but for some reason this ong stood out to me for the longest time. "theres always something going wrong, the paths i walk in the wrong direction, theres always someone fucking hang on. cant someone help me make things better?" things at home were shit, and it felt like i was going the wrong way with my life. i knew i had people there for me, but there words weren't helping. i wanted them to forget, but for some reason i wanted them to hang on. hoping that they could make everything better.

009 : "In The End" by Linkin Park
- linkin park is one of the bands that i can listen to and never get sick of. In the end is a song that i can have on repeat for the longest time. None of the other songs i've listed can come close to anything that linkin park has helped me with. this song is amazing, and one of their best. i dont know what to say. It's just my favorite song of all times. if i ever need a song to listen to , to get me up when im down, it's this on. "i had to fall, to loose it all. but in the end. it doesnt even matter. i put my trust in you, pushed it as far as i could go. for all this, theres only one thing you should know..." we've all trusted the wrong people in our lives, but we learn as we get older. and i've learned who and who not to trust.

010 : "Wonderwall" by Oasis
- This song gets the waterworks going everytime. theres been so many covers of this song, but nothing will ever beat the original make, by oasis. i think about the past and the things i've been through, and just thank everything for letting me get this far. i've had so many people influence my life, and the way im living today. i've had so many people act as my wonderwall, and im ohkay with that. they've saved me in one way or another just like music has. I've gotten this far because of every song i've listened to, because of every person who sat there with me when time's were rough. i have a boyfriend right now, and it's been almost 5 months. he acts as my wonderwall, and i wouldn't have it any other way. He's the person who keeps me safe.. whoe keeps me sane and aware. He worries about me, and i know he loves me. Waking up with him beside me, is something i never want o loose. Jason ewanchuk , You're my wonderwall...

My top 10, right there. along with my life story. these songs have helped me get through the worst of the worse. and i owe it, not to just music, but to the people in my life, for getting me where iam today. I love you both. I've made mistakes but i've learned from them, and i still am. Im thankful for being here today, no more will i take life for granted. thanks for listening, and reading. ♥
